Protect Yourself Against Financial Fraud
Use Online Banking for Debit Card/ATM card Security

Debit cards are also known as check cards. Debit cards look like credit cards or ATM (automated teller machine) cards, but operate like cash or a personal check. Debit cards are different from credit cards. While a credit card is a way to "pay later," a debit card is a way to "pay now." When you use a debit card, your money is quickly deducted from your checking account.

Did you know that with online banking you have the ability to review your account every day?   Just use your FREE online banking on a daily basis to check the latest transactions on your account(s).  This vigilance will benefit you in recognizing questionable or fraudulent transactions promptly and allowing you to report the details to YNB in a very timely manner.

At YNB, we take protecting your financial information seriously. We are working diligently to keep ourselves educated and you, the customer, informed in order to protect your accounts.  Recently, YNB added a second layer of security, Two Factor Authentication with a personalized matrix grid to the online banking function. YNB takes constant steps to provide the best of security for your banking functions.  We recognize and respect your right to privacy when it comes to your personal financial information. Unless you have initiated the contact, YNB will not ask you for your personal information through email, mail or phone. With financial fraud on the rise, it is important that you know how to protect yourself against this type of fraud.

  • Never lend your ATM/Debit Card.
  • Never let anyone watch you enter your PIN at an ATM or Point of Sale terminal.
  • Do not leave your receipt at the ATM. Tear it up before discarding.
  • Memorize your passwords and PIN numbers and change them regularly.
  • Avoid using obvious or easily obtainable information as your passwords or PIN numbers, and never write them down anywhere or reveal them to anyone.
  • Be cautious when your card leaves your physical presence.

In a “phishing” scam, bank customers receive an e-mail from the thieves claiming the bank requires personal information, such as a Social Security or account number. The fraudsters may even direct the target to a fake bank web site. This is known as “spoofing”, in that a legitimate web site is mimicked to illegally obtain an individual’s sensitive personal information.

YNB encourages you to contact us at any of our 6 locations, should you suspect any fraudulent financial activity or receive any questionable communication from us. Our phone numbers and addresses are under the “Contact Us” tab at the top of the page. In the event that fraud has occurred, we will work with law enforcement to investigate the matter.
